Starting the last week of April, my school has been training for Track and Field day, during Gym class. At our Track and Field day, it is mandatory to participate (with the exception of injury) and each student must choose 2 track events, and 2 field events. During gym class, we practice a new event everyday. We practice one running event, as well as either javelin, shot put, high jump, long jump, or triple jump. Today (Wednesday) we just jogged one lap around the field, and went straight to high jump. I was really excited for high jump, because it is my favourite of all the events, and I am fairly good at it.

Today I was not doing as well as usual, so I started to get discouraged. Every time my Gym teacher raised the bar, I was becoming more and more sure that I wouldn’t make it. I was either just skimming the bar, or knocking it off all together. On the highest level of the day, I was getting tired, and I knocked the bar over 4 times. I wasn’t planning on jumping again, when my good friend Vicki Warner (Placed 1st in High Jump at last years Track and Field day) ran over to me and told me that I had to try again. She ended up convincing me to try one more time, by telling me that all I needed to do was run faster before my takeoff.

I ran my fastest to the bar, planted my left foot, raised my right foot and……………

I made it over the bar!

I have to say that I owe that successful jump to Vicki, she is an amazing friend and it felt really good to make it over the bar after many failures. I’m glad I did not give up, because this just proves that if you work hard, you can achieve anything!

Good use of clip art. Sometimes that’s what you have to do if you don’t have any pictures. Also like the shot of you and Vicki. Good story. Don’t forget to add categories and keyword tags.
